Medical Power of Attorney

A Medical Power of Attorney is a document that grants a specific person (the agent) the ability to act on behalf of the principal (person granting the authority to the agent). Durable indicates that it has provisions to ensure that the abilities of the agent persist even if the principal becomes incapacitated. The Medical Power of Attorney is designed specifically to grant medical decision-making powers to the agent on behalf of the principal. If the principal also has a Medical Directive, then the agent must make decision in line with the Medical Directive.
